the area
The valley
of Cwmystradllyn is renowned for its remoteness and natural beauty and
is situated just
to
the north of Tremadoc and Porthmadog. From the cottage there are
numerous walks over the Mynydd Gorllwyn mountains to the east where you
can view the entire estuary and Harlech castle beyond and, a little to
the north, Llyn Cwmystradllyn and the vast glacial valley. At
Porthmadog you will find an abundance of shops from small craft outlets
to the larger supermarkets like
the Co-op and Tesco. There is also a mainline railway station and a
narrow gauge train that will take you through the breathtaking Vale of
Ffestiniog to the slate-mining centre of Blaenau Ffestiniog and, in the
other direction, eventually to the north coast at Caernarfon. The nearby
coastline is peppered with fascinating and sheltered small inlets as
well as the broad stretches of golden sands towards Harlech in the south
and Criccieth to the north. The entire area is steeped in history and
interesting things to do and see, superb restaurants, and a people who
have not forgotten the art of conversation and the meaning of
friendship.
